WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.– Suffolk has broken ground on a major expansion project at White Plains Hospital, kicking off construction of a new 10-story, 500,000-square-foot facility that will significantly increase the hospital’s capacity and services by 2028.
The expansion will add 240 private patient rooms, nearly double the size of the emergency department, and include a dedicated floor with space for 10 operating rooms outfitted for complex procedures. The hospital’s licensed bed capacity will grow from 292 to 436.
“This is a major project for healthcare in Westchester County,” said Joseph Whalen, Vice President of Operations at Suffolk New York. “As the region grows, so does the need for more advanced and accessible care.”
Suffolk, which manages several large-scale healthcare and life sciences builds across the country, is applying a range of construction technologies on the project. These include its proprietary Live Dimensions Steel Tracker, which uses AI to monitor steel installation, and NavVis, a scanning system that captures high-resolution site data for cloud-based collaboration through the Revizto platform.
Hospital leadership said the project is intended to address both current and future healthcare needs.
“This expansion will help us deliver better care closer to home,” said Joshua Strugatz, Chief Campus Transformation Officer at White Plains Hospital. “We’ve worked closely with Suffolk to ensure this new facility meets the highest standards for our community and reflects where medicine is headed.”
Suffolk’s other New York-area projects include the Waldorf Astoria restoration, One High Line, Hatch Life Sciences in Queens, and South Shore University Hospital on Long Island.
