SGA’s Science & Technology Director Matthew Fickett to Speak at Life Sciences Facilities Summit

BOSTON—The Life Sciences Times and the Boston Real Estate Times announced that Matthew Fickett, AIA, LEED AP, CPHC, Director of Science + Technology at SGA, will speak at the virtual summit and the panel discussion on “From Labs to Life Sciences and From MedTech to Manufacturing Boom in Boston” on June 9, 2021.

Boston and New York City-based SGA is a national award-winning architecture, interior design, planning, branded environments and virtual design and construction practice.

Mr. Fickett, who has 15 years of experience in laboratory design, leads SGA’s science and technology practice. He is deeply involved with SGA teams in laboratory fit-out architecture and life sciences core and shell projects.

As a member of the International Institute for Sustainable Laboratories, Mr. Fickett strives to ensure that facility designs address not only current, but also future, needs. The labs that stand the test of time are highly adaptable and sustainable, allowing for rapid changes in science and promoting health and energy-efficiency. He also works closely with clients to identify the features of a building that enhance aesthetics and employee engagement. In Mr. Fickett’s view, function and beauty are not mutually exclusive.

Before joining SGA, Mr. Fickett honed his expertise in laboratory architecture at Payette, Perkins & Will, and Wilson (now HGA). At these firms, he led the design of complex and technical research facilities in higher education and commercial science. Project highlights included several facilities for nanoscale imaging and characterization and laboratories for particle physics.

Mr. Fickett, who earned the degree of Bachelor of Architecture from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, pursues goals of sustainable and integrated design in his spare time as well as in the office.
