SAN FRANCISCO– Virtual chronic care company Vida Health today announced the hiring of Patrick Carroll, MD as Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Carroll, who joined Vida from Hims & Hers — where he also acted as Chief Medical Officer — will lead Vida’s clinical strategy and protocols, research, clinical partner collaboration, and medical cost saving strategy. Dr. Carroll will also oversee Vida’s team of more than 1,000 providers who range from registered dietitians and diabetes educators to licensed therapists and certified mental health coaches.

“It’s an honor to be brought on to Vida to lead clinical operations at this exciting time for the company,” said Dr. Carroll. “With our providers, technology, culture, and clients, Vida is uniquely positioned to not only make a big impact on the lives of our members, but also a big impact on the way chronic conditions are treated for years to come.”

Dr. Carroll joined Hims & Hers as its first chief medical officer in 2019. He oversaw all clinical programs, outcomes, patient safety, and strategic initiatives that enhanced the company’s care model. He sat on the executive team and helped take the company public in early 2021. Prior to joining Hims & Hers, Dr. Carroll served as the Chief Medical Officer of Walgreens. He also spent time as the Chief Medical Officer of Integrated Care Partners, Hartford HealthCare’s clinical integration organization where he played a key role in its transition to value-based care.

“As we double down on the highest cost healthcare problems in America, we’re excited to bring such a respected and experienced medical leader onto our team,” said Vida Health Founder and CEO Stephanie Tilenius. “Patrick has a great passion for virtual health and a wealth of experience that makes him a perfect fit to lead Vida’s clinical teams into this next stage of our growth.”

Dr. Carroll is the second senior executive from a large employer to join Vida in the second half of 2021. Jason Parrott, Vida’s SVP of Enterprise Growth and Partnerships, joined the company after serving as the senior leader of healthcare and wellbeing strategy for Boeing — a Vida client.

Vida has full-stack virtual healthcare solutions for chronic mental and physical health conditions in both English and Spanish and serves members in all 50 states. Vida’s clients include employers like Boeing, Visa, Cisco, and eBay, along with some of the country’s largest health plans like Centene, Humana, and Blue Cross Blue Shield plans. Vida has proven clinical outcomes across a range of conditions, including diabetes, depression, hypertension, anxiety, and weight loss. Vida is the only virtual chronic care solution in its class to guarantee outcomes through a value-based pricing structure that puts 100% of Vida’s fees at risk for both mental and physical chronic outcomes.

Dr. Carroll will work out of New Hampshire where he lives with his wife. Dr. Carroll received his bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross and his medical degree from Dartmouth Medical School. He completed his residency at Middlesex Hospital in family practice, where he served as Chief Resident. Dr. Carroll is Board Certified in Family Practice and Adolescent Medicine.
