MEDFORD, N.Y.– AccuVein Inc., the global leader in Near Infrared (NIR) vein visualization, announced today that it is hosting a Sunrise Session Symposium, from 7-8 a.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, at AONL in the San Antonio TX, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.
The symposium is entitled, “Recover Nursing Time and Improve Patient Care with NIR Visualization.” Attendees will learn how to reduce workload stress, recover nursing time, and improve patient care by adding NIR vein visualization into their peripheral IV (PIV) site assessment and clinical protocol. The session will be led by Gregory J. Schears, MD and Thomas Hopkins, MD, MBA, CPE, who will collectively summarize evidence clarifying the value of NIR and review practice tips to improve patient satisfaction and enhance provider resilience for use with both adult and pediatric patients.
AONL attendees will also be able to visit AccuVein’s booth (#1042), on Monday, April 11 – Wednesday, April 13, where AccuVein will be demonstrating its latest vein visualization device, the AV500, and showcasing its robust education/training program.

Recent studies demonstrate that AccuVein guided PIV assessment and insertion can reduce procedure time by 78%* and increase the nurse’s ability to achieve peripheral intravenous catheter (PIVC) first stick success by 92%*, resulting in improved PIV efficiency and effectiveness. Up to 90% of patients receive IV therapy at some point during their hospital stay, making it the most commonly performed invasive medical procedure. Although it is routine, venipuncture can be technically challenging. When multiple venous access attempts are required, it is associated with increased patient morbidity, as well as increased utilization of staff and medical supplies.
Additionally, the Infusion Nursing Society’s (INS) 2021 Infusion Therapy Standards clearly link NIR vein visualization to improvement in outcomes and the overall patient experience, further underscoring its application in a clinical setting. As the Standards state, “It is important that vascular visualization technology is employed to increase insertion success of the most appropriate, least invasive vascular access device (VAD), minimizing the need to escalate to an unnecessary, more invasive device and to reduce insertion-related complications.”
