EDISON, N.J.– MTF Biologics, a global nonprofit organization that saves and heals lives by honoring donated gifts, serving patients, and advancing the science of tissue transplantation, has announced the appointment of Mia Talmor, MD, to the MTF Biologics Board of Directors.

As MTF’s allografts are used in increasingly diverse types of surgeries and clinical applications, her expertise will be critical to advancing the Foundation’s mission.”

Talmor is a Professor of Clinical Surgery at The Weill Cornell Medical School and an attending surgeon at New York Presbyterian Hospital. She specializes in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery and offers the most technologically advanced procedures available to enhance the appearance and self-esteem of her patients. Her most recent research focuses on new techniques in breast and cosmetic surgery, safety issues related to cosmetic surgery, as well as new technologies.
Talmor graduated from Cornell University Medical College with a Doctor of Medicine with honors in research in 1993. In 1996, she was appointed a research fellow after receiving the American College of Surgeons Resident Research Scholarship. She worked under Dr. Ralph Steinman at Rockefeller University in New York, who was awarded the Noble Prize in Medicine in 2011.
The first female surgeon appointed to the full-time faculty of the Division of Plastic Surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital and the first female plastic surgeon to be promoted to full professor, Talmor is one of the few double Board-certified surgeons in the country. She is a diplomat of both the American Board of Surgery and American Board of Plastic Surgery, having completed the recertification process with both Boards in 2011 and 2022.
In addition to her excellence as a plastic surgeon, Talmor has distinguished herself in the scientific community through her research, scientific presentations and publications. She has received numerous prestigious grants and awards from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, New York Regional Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, as well as from the National Institutes of Health. She has authored more than 60 scientific papers and five book chapters and has made numerous scientific presentations.
Talmor has been recognized by New York Magazine as a “Best Doctor” and by Castle Connolly as a “Top Doctor for Cancer” since 2013. She was an inaugural recipient of the “Exceptional Women in Medicine” award in 2017. She appears regularly in media outlets including Dr. Oz, The Today Show, CBS This Morning, Rachel Ray, Vogue and The New York Times. In 2021 she was recommended by Goop’s Guide to Breast Surgery.
Talmor has represented New York Presbyterian on MTF Biologics’ Medical Board of Trustees since 2018 and served in various leadership positions including Chair of the Education Committee and Nominations Committee. She is currently the Vice-Chair of the Medical Board of Trustees.
