UnitedHealthcare CEO Shot Dead in New York City

New York City– Brian Thompson, the Chief Executive Officer of UnitedHealthcare, was shot and killed while exiting a hotel in Midtown Manhattan by an unknown gunman on Wednesday, December fourth. According to reports Mr. Thompson was shot in the calf and the back. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but did not survive.

The shooting was caught on nearby security cameras where the gunman can be seen opening fire on Mr. Thompson with a handgun that appears to have a suppression device attached. The gunman then rode away on a city e-bike and was last seen pedaling towards central park.

The NYPD are investigating the shooting. No motive has been confirmed. According to reports that Life Sciences Times cannot confirm there were words inscribed on the bullet casings that were discharged by the suspect, that may suggest the attack was motivated by anti health insurance beliefs.

UnitedHealthcare Group put out the following statement on X “We are deeply saddened and shocked at the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Bryan Thompson, The CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Bryan was a highly respected colleague and friend to all who worked with him. We are working closely with the New York Police Department and ask for your patience and understanding during this difficult time. Our hearts go out to Brian’s family and all who were close to him.”

Mr. Thompson leaves behind a wife and two children.
