Ipswich, Mass. – New England Biolabs (NEB) introduced the 2025 Monarch Nucleic Acid Purification Scholarship alongside the release of its updated Monarch® nucleic acid purification kits.
The scholarship aims to recognize individuals whose nucleic acid purification research embodies the core principles of Monarch—performance, sustainability, and value.
In a move designed to support and celebrate groundbreaking scientific work, NEB is offering the Monarch Nucleic Acid Purification Scholarship to honor research excellence and environmental stewardship. The scholarship will be awarded to three U.S. residents aged 18 or older, each receiving a $2,025 scholarship to advance their research efforts. The recipients will also be featured in NEB communications, gaining widespread recognition for their contributions to the scientific community.
“Through this scholarship, we aim to acknowledge scientists who are advancing the field of nucleic acid purification while making meaningful contributions to both research and sustainability,” said James Deng, Senior Product Marketing Manager for NEB’s nucleic acid purification portfolio. “We encourage researchers at all experience levels who are using nucleic acid purification to apply and discover the benefits of NEB’s Monarch kits.”
Applications for the scholarship are open through May 1, 2025. NEB is inviting applicants to submit their work that demonstrates how they are using nucleic acid purification to push the boundaries of scientific discovery while adhering to the sustainable practices that Monarch kits promote.
The Monarch Nucleic Acid Purification Kits, which have recently been updated, feature an optimized column design and enhanced manufacturing processes, making them more efficient and environmentally friendly. Key improvements include:
-
A reduction of up to 30% in plastic usage by weight in columns, collection tubes, and reagent bottles.
-
A unique tapered column design that reduces buffer carryover and supports low-volume elution.
-
Transparent column bodies for improved visibility during purification processes.
-
New membrane engineering that maximizes binding capacity while filtering out solid contaminants.
These updates not only improve the sustainability of the kits but also offer unmatched performance, providing researchers with a more effective and reliable nucleic acid purification solution.
The Monarch Nucleic Acid Purification Scholarship reflects NEB’s ongoing commitment to supporting scientific advancement and environmental responsibility.
