BOSTON — Healthcare technology company binx health has partnered with WellStreet Urgent Care to significantly increase access to same-day chlamydia and gonorrhea testing and treatment across 115 urgent care locations in the U.S. The initiative aims to remove common barriers to STI care by offering rapid, in-clinic testing using advanced molecular diagnostics.
The new program is powered by the binx io platform, an FDA-cleared, CLIA-waived point-of-care test that delivers lab-quality PCR results for chlamydia and gonorrhea in about 30 minutes. The test is available to both male and female patients and is now in use across WellStreet Urgent Care facilities operating under regional brands such as Piedmont Urgent Care, Corewell Health Urgent Care, Prisma Health, and University Hospitals.
Traditionally, STI testing can take between 24 to 72 hours to return results, often leading to delayed treatment or unnecessary empirical therapy. The introduction of same-day testing and treatment options within urgent care settings addresses this gap by providing results during the initial visit, reducing patient anxiety and helping prevent further transmission.
“In urgent care, we often have one chance to diagnose and treat,” said Dr. Michael Duchynski, Chief Operating and Medical Officer at WellStreet Urgent Care. “Being able to provide testing, results, and treatment in a single visit significantly improves patient outcomes and satisfaction, while also enhancing the speed and quality of care.”
Sexually transmitted infections remain a pressing public health issue in the United States, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reporting over 2 million cases of chlamydia and gonorrhea annually. These infections are frequently asymptomatic and, if left untreated, can result in serious health complications, including infertility, pelvic pain, and increased vulnerability to other infections.
The integration of the binx io platform into WellStreet’s clinics provides patients with a discreet, affordable, and efficient option for managing their sexual health. The diagnostic technology not only improves operational efficiency for clinics but also ensures that treatment decisions are informed by highly accurate molecular testing.
Dr. Brian S. Bobb, Senior Medical Officer at WellStreet, emphasized the importance of rapid diagnostics in community care. “This seamless, one-visit approach allows us to deliver timely, effective care while minimizing transmission risks. It’s a vital advancement for both patient care and public health.”
The collaboration between binx health and WellStreet reflects a broader shift toward using innovative diagnostic tools to enhance access and equity in STI care. As urgent care centers increasingly serve as a front line for routine health services, partnerships like this are poised to play a pivotal role in modernizing community healthcare delivery.
“Urgent care centers are central to how many people access health services,” said Mike Karsonovich, President of binx health. “We’re proud to support WellStreet in delivering fast, accurate, and accessible sexual health diagnostics to the communities they serve.”
