BOSTON — Cycle Pharmaceuticals has introduced Cycle Vita PKU™, a smartphone app designed to support individuals living with phenylketonuria (PKU) in managing their treatment plans more efficiently.

PKU is a rare genetic disorder caused by a deficiency of the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase (PAH), which is necessary to process phenylalanine (Phe), an amino acid found in protein-rich foods. Nearly all PKU cases are identified through newborn screenings and require strict, lifelong dietary management to prevent complications.

Managing the complexities of PKU—including medication schedules, medical formulas, lab results, and dietary restrictions—can be demanding for patients and caregivers. Cycle Vita PKU aims to simplify this process by offering daily tracking, reminders, and diet management tools. The app features a searchable database of over 9,000 foods and an AI-powered meal scanner that estimates Phe levels by analyzing photos of meals.

The tool is particularly geared toward adolescents and young adults transitioning to independent living, providing on-the-go support to help them adhere to their treatment regimen.

“The launch of Cycle Vita PKU marks an exciting milestone as the first app from Cycle Vita™, Cycle’s dedicated patient support platform,” said Jamie Ray, Director of the Patient Support Program at Cycle Pharmaceuticals. “As part of our commitment to the PKU community, we will continue to innovate and offer tailored support for patients’ needs. Cycle Vita PKU is just one example of that commitment.”

Cycle emphasized that the app is intended as a support tool and does not offer medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Users are advised to consult their healthcare providers for medical concerns.
