BARGERSVILLE, Ind.– Dr. Paul Delbert Winchester, a nationally recognized leader in neonatology, has been named a Top Pinnacle Neonatologist by The Inner Circle in recognition of his four-decade career dedicated to infant and pediatric health.
Currently a professor of neonatology at Indiana University’s Riley Hospital for Children and attending neonatologist at St. Francis Hospital, Winchester has played a key role in advancing neonatal care since 1981. He is known for establishing multiple Level III NICUs and pioneering techniques such as high-frequency ventilation and prenatal steroid treatments that significantly improved survival rates for premature infants.
Dr. Winchester’s early work in Colorado helped triple survival rates in low birth-weight babies within months. He also contributed to the development of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program and led one of the first neonatal transport teams in the U.S.
A Stanford and University of Michigan alumnus, Dr. Winchester’s research has had national impact. His studies have linked prenatal exposure to herbicides like glyphosate with shorter pregnancies and increased health risks, prompting further federal research and public health awareness.
Beyond medicine, Winchester has been a mentor, public health advocate, and speaker at numerous national conferences. He’s also received multiple honors, including the March of Dimes “Make a Difference” Award, Indiana’s Hulman Achievement Award for Health Science Research, and several Top Doctor recognitions.
Now focused on prenatal health and environmental influences on fetal development, Dr. Winchester continues his mission to improve neonatal outcomes and prevent the conditions that lead to preterm birth and chronic childhood diseases.
