Boston– Intrinsic Therapeutics, a medical technology firm specializing in spinal care, has named industry veteran Keith Valentine as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Valentine, who brings more than three decades of experience in the spine and orthopedic sectors, will assume his new role in early May and join the company’s board of directors.
The announcement comes as Intrinsic prepares for the 2026 implementation of a Category I CPT code for its flagship product, the Barricaid Annular Closure Device. Designed to reduce the risk of reherniation in patients with large annular defects following lumbar discectomy, the Barricaid device has been shown to decrease reoperations by 81%.
Valentine previously held leadership roles at several major spine-focused companies, including Medtronic Spine and Biologics and NuVasive, where he served as President from 2004 to 2015. Most recently, he led SeaSpine as CEO until its merger with Orthofix, continuing in the role until 2023.

Intrinsic Chairman Ryan Drant welcomed Valentine’s appointment, noting his proven success in driving growth in innovative spinal implant companies.
“With the CPT-1 code for Barricaid becoming effective in January 2026, Keith brings the ideal mix of leadership and spine industry expertise to expand our market presence and improve patient care,” Drant said.
Drant also acknowledged outgoing CEO Cary Hagan for his decade of leadership, highlighting his role in securing FDA premarket approval for Barricaid and the CPT-1 coding milestone.
