CARLSBAD– Thermo Fisher Scientific has officially opened its new 6,000-square-foot Advanced Therapies Collaboration Center (ATxCC) in Carlsbad, California, a strategic move aimed at accelerating the development and commercialization of cell-based immunotherapies. The facility is designed to support biotech, biopharmaceutical, and translational researchers as they transition therapies from research-scale development to commercial readiness.

The new center provides developers with access to Thermo Fisher’s comprehensive portfolio of laboratory equipment, reagents, and analytical technologies, along with its deep expertise in process optimization. By integrating these resources, the center helps clients develop scalable and compliant manufacturing workflows that meet Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) requirements.

“Our new Advanced Therapies Collaboration Center represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to deliver solutions that address critical challenges in cell therapy development,” said Betty Woo, vice president of cell, gene, and advanced therapies at Thermo Fisher Scientific. “By enabling access to our expertise and broad range of instrumentation and technologies, we aim to help our customers overcome manufacturing hurdles and accelerate their path to commercialization. The center is poised to play a pivotal role in helping to advance cell therapies, ultimately improving patient lives.”

The Carlsbad ATxCC will serve as a collaborative hub where cell therapy developers can work closely with Thermo Fisher’s specialized scientists, engineers, and regulatory teams to refine manufacturing protocols and processes. The center also offers early access to innovative technologies not yet available to the broader market, providing developers with tools to streamline production, reduce contamination risk, and enhance consistency.

In addition to providing technical and regulatory guidance, the center offers ongoing partnership support as therapeutic programs progress, enabling tailored assistance as new challenges emerge.

The Carlsbad facility joins Thermo Fisher’s network of global collaboration centers, which includes locations in Singapore and South Korea. An expanded center in Philadelphia is expected to open later this year, further broadening the company’s clinical and commercial support for the cell and gene therapy sector.
