Lexington, Mass.– Fujifilm Healthcare Americas Corporation has won a 2025 MedTech Breakthrough Award for its EN-840T Double Balloon Enteroscopy (DBE) Scope, a next-generation endoscopic imaging device designed to improve access to the small intestine for both diagnosis and treatment.
The EN-840T was named “Best New Endoscopy Technology Solution” by MedTech Breakthrough, an independent organization that honors top innovations in the global medical technology sector. The award recognizes Fujifilm’s latest advancement in DBE technology, which enables full visualization and intervention throughout the small bowel—one of the most difficult areas to access in gastrointestinal (GI) medicine.
Fujifilm’s updated scope offers several enhancements, including the ability to aspirate blood or mucus while inserting therapeutic devices, which helps speed up hemostasis. A dedicated forward water jet channel allows for rapid irrigation, improving visibility by clearing debris such as blood from the bowel wall.
“As a company with a long track record of innovation in endoscopy, we’re honored to receive this recognition,” said Tai Fujita, vice president and general manager of endoscopy at Fujifilm Healthcare Americas. “With millions of Americans living with conditions like Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, timely and accurate diagnosis is critical. The EN-840T gives clinicians the tools they need to reach deep into the small intestine and provide life-improving care.”
The scope is equipped with a high-definition CMOS image sensor, LED multi-light technology, and Fujifilm’s proprietary Linked Color Imaging (LCI) and Blue Light Imaging (BLI) modes. Together, these features enhance contrast and image clarity during procedures, aiding in the detection of lesions and abnormalities. Its ergonomic design also incorporates adaptive bending and advanced force transmission for greater control and maneuverability in tight or tortuous anatomy.
MedTech Breakthrough’s managing director Steve Johansson called the EN-840T a “novel tool” that pushes the boundaries of small bowel diagnostics. “In GI endoscopy, access to the small bowel remains a key challenge,” Johansson said. “Fujifilm is raising the standard for what’s possible in deep enteroscopy.”
The 2025 MedTech Breakthrough Awards program received more than 4,500 nominations from over 18 countries, highlighting significant innovation and progress in the health technology space.
