BURLINGTON, Mass. — HealthEdge, a leading provider of next-generation core administrative processing systems and care management solutions, has announced a sweeping initiative to become an AI-native enterprise. The company is migrating its operations to Amazon Web Services (AWS) and embedding generative artificial intelligence (AI) and agentic systems at the heart of its business operations, product development, and technology infrastructure.
As part of this transformation, HealthEdge has partnered with Loka, AWS’s 2024 Partner of the Year, to leverage Amazon Bedrock in building scalable generative AI applications. These new capabilities aim to enhance operational efficiency, accelerate innovation, and deliver more responsive services to health plans and their members.
Robert Duffy, Chief Technology Officer at HealthEdge, described the initiative as a critical step in modernizing the healthcare technology landscape. “AI is unlocking opportunities that were unimaginable just a few years ago, especially in a healthcare system as complex and fragmented as ours,” said Duffy. “Migrating our operations to AWS allows us to dismantle data silos and build a more flexible and scalable digital ecosystem. Generative AI can uncover value in data that traditional technologies simply can’t tap into. With this transformation, we are laying the groundwork for a new standard in how healthcare technology operates.”
The initiative focuses on three key areas. First, HealthEdge is deploying AI tools across its workforce—from engineering to sales—to improve productivity and redirect employee efforts toward higher-value tasks. The company aims to offload 15% of current workloads to AI within 12 to 18 months and is actively investing in AI literacy among employees to support this shift.
Second, the company is enhancing its platform by embedding AI tools directly into its products. This will allow customers—primarily health plans—to benefit from faster and more accurate claims processing, intelligent data queries through large language models (LLMs), and greater overall efficiency in administrative operations.
Third, HealthEdge is developing a scalable AI and agentic platform on AWS. This robust infrastructure is designed to support both internal and customer-facing workflows, enabling rapid deployment of new features and reinforcing a culture of continuous innovation. Initiatives such as the HealthEdge Agent Lab will help deliver AI-driven workflows in fast, iterative sprints.
Loka brings deep expertise in AI, big data, and DevOps to the partnership, and is playing a central role in architecting the systems behind HealthEdge’s transformation. Emily Kruger, Chief Innovation Officer at Loka, emphasized the strategic value of agentic AI: “It’s not just automation—it’s adaptive intelligence that continuously improves. With HealthEdge, we’re showing that AI can fundamentally reshape how work is done in healthcare.”
AWS is providing the cloud backbone for the project, including advanced AI capabilities through Amazon Bedrock. “Our technology enables HealthEdge to unlock insights, automate complex processes, and enhance customer experiences while maintaining the strict security and compliance standards required in healthcare,” said Ben Schreiner, Head of AI and Modern Data Strategy Business Development at AWS.
HealthEdge’s transformation underscores a broader shift within healthcare IT as companies seek to use AI not just as a tool, but as a strategic capability. With this initiative, HealthEdge positions itself at the forefront of this movement—redefining how healthcare technology is developed, delivered, and scaled.
