WALTHAM, Mass. — Vicarious Surgical Inc., a medical robotics company focused on revolutionizing minimally invasive surgery, has announced a new collaboration with UMass Memorial Medical Center aimed at supporting the clinical integration of its robotic surgical system.
The partnership will focus on improving perioperative workflows, enhancing surgeon education, and developing strategies to support the adoption and effective use of Vicarious Surgical’s next-generation robotic platform. As the largest not-for-profit hospital in Central Massachusetts and the academic flagship of UMass Memorial Health, UMass Memorial Medical Center brings extensive clinical experience and regional leadership to the collaboration.
The agreement includes efforts to streamline surgical protocols and hospital operations, including inventory management, sterilization practices, and standardized patient care before and after procedures. Surgeons at UMass Memorial will also participate in case observations and robotic system testing to help refine best practices.
“We’re excited to work with UMass Memorial Medical Center to drive excellence in the application of our robotic technology,” said Adam Sachs, CEO and co-founder of Vicarious Surgical. “This collaboration will allow us to implement optimized workflows that are critical for successful adoption and utilization of our system. UMass Memorial’s leadership in advanced surgical care makes them an ideal partner.”
As part of the collaboration, the partners will also share insights related to clinical research, peer-to-peer education, and emerging innovations in robotic surgery.
Dr. John Kelly, Chief of General and Minimally Invasive Surgery at UMass Memorial, emphasized the importance of innovation in healthcare education and delivery. “As an organization dedicated to mentoring the next generation of healthcare professionals, we’re always seeking ways to improve surgical outcomes,” he said. “Working with Vicarious Surgical gives us an opportunity to explore promising technology that may help elevate the standard of care for our patients.”
The collaboration marks a step forward in Vicarious Surgical’s broader mission to transform minimally invasive surgery with robotics that offer greater precision, efficiency, and clinical outcomes. By working closely with UMass Memorial’s team of experienced surgeons and staff, the company aims to validate and refine key aspects of its system in a real-world hospital environment.
