NEW YORK– Canid, a healthcare technology startup focused on improving pediatric vaccine management, has secured $10 million in Series A funding to expand its platform aimed at relieving the administrative burden on independent pediatricians. The funding round was led by Telescope Partners, with participation from FJ Labs, Brooklyn Bridge Ventures, SeedtoB, and others, bringing Canid’s total funding to $12.9 million.

Founded in 2021, Canid is addressing a widespread challenge in pediatric care: the operational complexity and cost of managing vaccinations. For many pediatric practices, vaccines are the second-highest expense after staffing, yet nearly 70% of pediatricians either lose money or break even on their vaccine programs. Issues with insurance reimbursements, inventory tracking, and regulatory compliance have left many providers overwhelmed.

Canid’s platform automates these processes, integrating with electronic health record (EHR) systems and eliminating the need for manual entry and oversight. By scanning a vaccine barcode, pediatricians delegate related administrative tasks, financial responsibilities, and compliance obligations to Canid’s software, which uses AI and operational scale to manage ordering, billing, reporting, and patient outreach.

CEO and founder Pedro Sánchez de Lozada said the goal is to let pediatricians concentrate on patient care, not business management. “Pediatricians spend years training to care for children, not to master inventory systems or revenue cycles. Canid handles the back office so they can focus on clinical work. We believe Canid will be the technology backbone that allows independent pediatric practices to thrive.”

Physicians have increasingly found themselves spending more time on administrative work, a trend that has worsened over the past decade. According to Medscape, pediatricians now devote an average of 15 hours per week to administrative duties, up from nine hours in 2012. This shift has impacted financial sustainability and contributed to rising physician burnout, particularly in smaller, independent practices.

Dr. Julie Capiola of Premier Pediatrics, which adopted Canid’s platform in 2023, said the impact has been immediate. “When you run an independent practice, all the little costs add up. Vaccine management is full of those costs,” she said. “Canid has become a true partner, taking full ownership of our vaccine program and saving us time and money. Most importantly, it allows me to focus more on my patients.”

Canid currently works with more than 150 pediatricians across 12 states, supporting over 300,000 children and having facilitated vaccinations for more than 121,000 patients to date. With the new funding, the company plans to expand its reach and further develop its technology to support independent providers.

“Canid is solving a critical challenge for an essential group of physicians,” said Nicole Naidoo, Partner at Telescope Partners. “Their platform transforms vaccine programs from a financial burden into a streamlined, efficient operation. We’re excited to support their mission and help bring pediatric care into a more modern, sustainable future.”
