CORVALLIS, Ore.– NuScale Power Corporation (NYSE: SMR) has named Shahram Ghasemian as its new Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary, effective immediately. Ghasemian brings decades of legal and regulatory experience from both the public and private sectors, including senior roles at the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the Department of Energy.

Prior to joining NuScale, Ghasemian served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Chief Compliance Officer, and Corporate Secretary at Centrus Energy Corp. His earlier career included legal and policy positions at multiple federal agencies, as well as legislative work on nuclear policy on Capitol Hill. He began his career in 1997 with Centrus’ predecessor, handling legal issues related to nuclear fuel, compliance, and complex agreements.

NuScale CEO John Hopkins welcomed the appointment, highlighting Ghasemian’s expertise in nuclear energy regulation and governance.

“Shahram’s deep experience in legal, compliance, and government affairs within the nuclear sector will be a tremendous asset as we continue advancing the deployment of our SMR technology,” Hopkins said.

Ghasemian expressed enthusiasm about joining NuScale during what he described as a critical moment for the energy industry.

“NuScale’s NRC-approved designs and commitment to safe, clean, and reliable energy solutions offer a unique opportunity to shape the future of global energy,” he said. “I’m honored to contribute to the company’s mission and work alongside such a talented team.”

Ghasemian holds a Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law and a Bachelor of Science in Civil and Environmental Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. His appointment comes as NuScale continues to push forward with the commercialization of its advanced small modular reactor (SMR) technology.
