Bruni, Texas — OnMed has launched a new CareStation in Bruni, Texas, providing residents of this medically underserved region with direct access to licensed clinicians through real-time video consultations and advanced diagnostic tools. The facility, installed in partnership with Webb County, aims to address critical gaps in care for rural communities across South Texas.
With no local physicians and the nearest basic healthcare services nearly an hour away in Laredo, Bruni—home to about 750 residents—represents one of many “healthcare deserts” in the state. Texas has 35 counties without a single practicing doctor. The OnMed CareStation, now housed at the Bruni Public Health Facility, offers a significant alternative: patients can receive medical evaluations, thermal imaging, real-time scanning, and remote vital sign monitoring—all without leaving their town.
“This state-of-the-art CareStation is a critical step in improving healthcare access in our rural areas,” said Webb County Judge Tano E. Tijerina. Commissioner Rosaura ‘Wawi’ Tijerina added that the facility will benefit not just Webb County, but surrounding communities as well.
The Bruni site is one of four CareStations opening across Texas this month, as OnMed expands its footprint in the state. The company, which already operates in seven states, plans to grow into 25 by the end of the year. OnMed CareStations are deployed in various underserved locations including homeless shelters, correctional facilities, and community centers.
OnMed CEO Karthik Ganesh emphasized the broader mission: “Access to healthcare in rural America is both crucial and achievable. Our partnership with Webb County shows what’s possible when communities commit to innovative solutions.”
The Bruni CareStation is open to the public and is free to use, with no cost to either patients or the county. An open house and ribbon-cutting ceremony were scheduled to mark its official debut on June 25.
