WOBURN, Mass.– OSSIO Inc., a medical technology company pioneering the use of bio-integrative, metal-free implants in orthopedic surgery, has expanded its soft-tissue fixation product line with the launch of the OSSIOfiber® 2.5mm Suture Anchor. The new device is designed to improve outcomes in procedures such as Brostrom repair for lateral ankle instability by offering a smaller, stronger alternative to traditional implants.
The OSSIOfiber® 2.5mm Suture Anchor is engineered to provide a 55% increase in pull-out strength compared to the leading 2.4mm bio-composite anchor on the market. As with the rest of the OSSIOfiber platform, the new anchor is made entirely of a bio-integrative material that gradually incorporates into the bone, eliminating permanent hardware and reducing the risk of adverse tissue reactions.
Dr. Thomas Philip San Giovanni, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon at Baptist Health South Florida, praised the device’s performance. “With these new small OSSIOfiber Suture Anchors, I can approach a familiar procedure with the same technique I’ve always trusted, only now I’m using a smaller, stronger, smarter material that I believe is the future of orthopedics,” he said. “Outcomes with this novel material aren’t just equivalent—they’re better in my experience.”
OSSIO’s latest anchor is designed to be compatible with standard orthopedic techniques and instruments, offering options for both pre-loaded and unloaded configurations to match surgeon preferences. It integrates seamlessly into surgical workflows, using familiar tools such as drill bits and a slotted drill guide for efficient insertion.
“With this launch, OSSIO has introduced the first small, fully bio-integrative suture anchor that outperforms existing options for lateral ankle instability and other soft tissue repairs,” said OSSIO CEO Brian Verrier. “It allows surgeons to perform these procedures with greater fixation strength and less long-term impact on the patient, further enhancing our best-in-class implant portfolio.”
The OSSIOfiber® Suture Anchors, available in 2.5mm to 3.5mm sizes, are approved for soft tissue fixation in multiple areas of the body, including the foot, ankle, knee, hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Indications for use span a broad range of orthopedic procedures such as Achilles tendon repairs, ligament reconstructions, rotator cuff repairs, and biceps tenodesis. The anchors are cleared for use in adults and in pediatric patients where growth plates are not affected.
The launch reinforces OSSIO’s commitment to advancing orthopedic care with innovative, bio-integrative solutions that prioritize healing, reduce the need for secondary surgeries, and create a more natural recovery environment.
