WESTBOROUGH, Mass. — Kopin Corporation (NASDAQ: KOPN), in partnership with HMDmd, has initiated production deliveries of its advanced CR3 wearable surgical monitor to Carl Zeiss Meditec, a global leader in medical technology.
The CR3 system, designed specifically for surgical applications, is FDA-registered and CE-marked, meeting international standards for medical device safety and performance. The lightweight, ergonomic head-mounted display (HMD) delivers full high-definition 3D imagery, providing surgeons with real-time visual access to live video feeds and diagnostic images during procedures. This eliminates the need to shift focus between a patient and conventional wall- or boom-mounted monitors, enhancing both surgical precision and physical comfort.
“Kopin is proud to manufacture a cutting-edge display and optical solution to integrate with the state-of-the-art operating microscopes of Carl Zeiss Meditec, supporting their commitment to precision and innovation,” said Bill Maffucci, Senior Vice President of Business Development & Strategy at Kopin. “We believe our advanced display technologies will help drive the next generation of surgical systems, furthering excellence in future microsurgery applications.”
The CR3 was developed over several years through a collaboration between Kopin and HMDmd, combining advanced microdisplay technology with expertise in surgical ergonomics. The production of these medical-grade systems involves rigorous quality assurance protocols, incorporating high-end optical and electronic components and adhering to strict manufacturing standards.
John Lyon, CEO of HMDmd, hailed the first shipment as a major milestone: “The initial delivery of production line devices to Carl Zeiss Meditec marks a significant milestone in our development program, demonstrating considerable progress in both surgical technology and professional adoption.”
Kopin and HMDmd plan to continue their partnership as they support the adoption of wearable medical display systems by global surgical equipment leaders. The companies aim to remain at the forefront of innovation in high-performance head-mounted solutions tailored for surgical and medical professionals worldwide.
