BOSTON– Outcome Capital has launched a specialized ophthalmology-focused investment banking practice, appointing seasoned finance executive and patient advocate Paul Ryb as Managing Director to lead the new division.

The move marks the first time a healthcare advisory firm has established a practice solely focused on the ophthalmology sector, which remains underserved despite vision impairment affecting more than 2.2 billion people worldwide. The initiative aims to address what the firm calls one of the world’s most pressing yet underfunded healthcare challenges.

Ryb brings more than three decades of experience in global investment banking and venture capital, along with deep personal and professional ties to the ophthalmic space. Legally blind himself, Ryb has become a prominent advocate for patients with sight loss while advising and financing numerous ventures in eye health, including his involvement in Bausch + Lomb’s acquisition of ELIOS Vision.

“This appointment is central to our strategy to serve the rapidly growing ophthalmology market, a space where medical innovation is both urgent and highly complex,” said Oded Ben-Joseph, Managing Partner at Outcome Capital. “Paul’s unique blend of transactional expertise, patient advocacy, and sector knowledge makes him the ideal leader to drive this initiative.”

Ryb previously held senior roles at Royal Bank of Scotland and other leading financial institutions. He has also served on various boards in both the public and nonprofit sectors, including the UK’s National Health Service and the Royal National Institute of the Blind. He currently serves on the investment committee for Fight for Sight, a major UK funder of eye research.

With a background in economics from the University of Manchester, Ryb is also known for his personal achievements as a world champion in visually impaired tennis and a black belt in Xen-Do kickboxing.

“I’m honored to take on this role and to help bridge the gap between groundbreaking innovation and patient outcomes in eye care,” Ryb said. “This dedicated practice is an opportunity to not only advance investment in ophthalmology but also ensure those innovations reach the people who need them most.”
