BOSTON — Chemical detection technology firm 908 Devices Inc. (Nasdaq: MASS) has appointed national security veteran Dr. Brandi Vann to its Board of Directors as the company sharpens its focus on public health, safety, and defense markets.
Dr. Vann, a former senior official at the U.S. Department of Defense, brings more than 15 years of leadership in nuclear, chemical, and biological defense. She previously served as Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense and also assumed the role of Acting Assistant Secretary for Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Defense Programs. Her portfolio included oversight of weapons systems, biodefense strategy, and treaty compliance.
“Brandi’s deep experience in CBRN [chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear] detection enhances the strategic counsel of our board as we navigate new opportunities in national security and global preparedness,” said Kevin J. Knopp, CEO and Co-founder of 908 Devices.
From 2019 to 2022, Vann served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Chemical and Biological Defense. She also held several leadership positions at the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, including Chief of the Advanced and Emerging Threats Division, where she led programs to counter next-generation chemical and biological threats.

The board reshuffling also includes the departure of Jeff George, a biopharmaceutical industry veteran who served as chair of the board’s compensation committee. George is stepping down as the company pivots away from bioprocessing and concentrates more on defense technology.

The board changes are effective immediately.
