Hyderabad, India — Hyderabad has emerged as one of the top seven global life sciences clusters, driven by rapid infrastructure development, significant job creation, and strategic policy planning, according to a report published by the Times of India.

As reported by the Times of India, Telangana’s life sciences sector has attracted investments worth ₹54,000 crore (over $600 million) since December 2023, resulting in the creation of approximately 200,000 new jobs. These positions span across pharmaceutical manufacturing, biotechnology, medical devices, and vaccine production.

The TOI report notes that this surge in investment is part of the state’s larger push to become a global hub for life sciences and healthcare innovation.

Major global life sciences and healthcare firms—including Eli Lilly, Amgen, MSD, Zoetis, Evernorth, and Olympus—have recently set up Global Capability Centres (GCCs) in Hyderabad. These centers support global operations in areas like R&D, clinical trials, digital health, and regulatory compliance, as reported by TOI.

TOI quoted Telangana Life Sciences Director Shakthi M. Nagappan as emphasizing that Hyderabad’s advantage lies in its established talent pool, robust regulatory ecosystem, and government support for innovation.

The Pharma Economic Times further reports that Telangana’s life sciences ecosystem is currently valued at more than $80 billion, supported by a robust network of over 2,000 companies, 250+ USFDA-approved manufacturing sites, 20+ incubators, and 40+ national research and academic institutions.

Telangana aims to scale its life sciences ecosystem to $250 billion by 2030, a goal outlined in its forthcoming Life Sciences Policy, which is expected to promote investment in emerging sectors such as cell and gene therapy, biologics, precision medicine, and digital health, according to TOI.

Additionally, the state is exploring the establishment of a Telangana School of Life Sciences to provide world-class training, facilitate research-industry collaboration, and foster local talent.

Hyderabad’s placement among the top global clusters reflects international recognition of the city’s ecosystem. According to Times of India, this includes peer cities such as Boston, San Diego, and Singapore—all global leaders in life sciences research, manufacturing, and innovation.

In a public statement, Telangana Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu said: “This recognition affirms Hyderabad’s place on the world map as a life sciences innovation hub. Our strategy combines infrastructure, policy, talent, and partnerships to drive the next phase of global growth.”
