BELLE, W.Va. — PureTech Scientific LLC, a global leader in high-purity glycolic acid innovation and manufacturing, announced the acquisition of Cymer Chemical’s Dayton, Tennessee operation. The site is a specialty tolling manufacturer providing chemical processing development, blending and formulation, sample analysis, organic synthesis, and pilot scale-up services. PureTech was founded and backed by Iron Path Capital, a private equity firm specializing in lower-middle-market investments in the specialty industrial and healthcare sectors.
PureTech’s Dayton facility will expand the company’s manufacturing capabilities across multiple grades of glycolic acid and enable it to purify its own products for high-purity applications. The facility will also produce specialized products and serve external customers with their chemical processing and manufacturing needs.
“This acquisition marks a significant step forward in our long-term growth strategy,” said Jake Fitzgerald, CEO of PureTech Scientific. “By integrating this facility and its talent into our business, we’re gaining strategic specialized capabilities and strengthening our position in the Life Sciences segment. We welcome the new team members and look forward to unlocking new value together.”
“This carve-out deal of an established business with strong fundamentals, untapped potential, and a clear path to accelerated growth represents exactly the type of opportunity we look for,” said Scott Mraz, Co-founder of Iron Path Capital. “We’re proud to support this next chapter for PureTech Scientific, investing in innovation, operational excellence, and long-term value creation.”
Founded in 2023 through a carve-out acquisition from The Chemours Company, PureTech Scientific was established by Iron Path Capital with a vision to drive end-market growth through innovation, technical expertise, and long-term investment in new customer-centered products and manufacturing capabilities.
PureTech’s environmentally friendly, biodegradable glycolic acid portfolio includes several product lines tailored to personal care, industrial, and specialty applications. Glypure is a high-purity glycolic acid used in personal care formulations such as anti-aging serums, exfoliation peels, moisturizers, and acne treatments. Glypure GL delivers the benefits of alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) with reduced irritation and lower free acid levels. Glypure PGA, with its low impurity levels, supports efficient production of polyglycolic acid polymers for biodegradable plastics.
In the industrial and technical markets, Glyclean serves as a key ingredient for electronics, surface cleaners, semiconductors, and other processing applications, while Glyclean D provides an improved, environmentally responsible solution for the cleaning and disinfecting sector.
The acquisition of the Dayton facility marks a major milestone in PureTech’s evolution as it strengthens its position as a global innovator in glycolic acid chemistry and expands its ability to serve customers across diverse end markets.
