BOSTON — InterSystems, a global data technology provider supporting more than one billion health records worldwide, announced the launch of the InterSystems HealthShare AI Assistant, a new generative AI capability that helps clinicians, case managers, and administrators access and interpret patient data more efficiently.

Built on the InterSystems HealthShare Unified Care Record (UCR), the HealthShare AI Assistant offers a conversational interface that allows users to securely query, summarize, and navigate longitudinal patient records using natural language. Drawing on thousands of clinical data sources, the AI Assistant leverages generative AI to deliver concise insights and standardized displays, improving both the speed and accuracy of clinical decision-making.

Key features of the HealthShare AI Assistant include a conversational chat interface that enables clinicians to ask questions or request patient summaries in plain language, clinically curated and customizable prompts, and complete source traceability for every AI-generated response. The tool is integrated within the HealthShare Clinical Viewer and Navigation Application, allowing it to function naturally within existing workflows. It also includes role-based access controls, configurable data profiles, and comprehensive audit tracking to ensure responsible AI use.

“AI in healthcare must be grounded in trust, interoperability, and reliable data,” said Don Woodlock, head of global healthcare solutions at InterSystems. “With HealthShare AI Assistant, we’re giving healthcare professionals a faster and safer way to access the information they need, right from within their existing workflows. It’s about reducing cognitive burden, improving efficiency, and letting clinicians focus on caring for patients.”

Pilot programs for HealthShare AI Assistant have shown measurable improvements in clinician efficiency and satisfaction. A study conducted with Healthix, one of the largest public health information exchanges in the United States, found that the AI Assistant streamlined workflows, reduced time spent reviewing records, and helped surface actionable insights.

“Collecting information from more than 9,000 facilities covering over 21 million patients comes with an abundance of data,” said Todd Rogow, CEO at Healthix. “With HealthShare AI Assistant, our clinician users now have a tool that delivers an instant, clinically validated summary drawn from years of records, providing a comprehensive view of each patient’s medical history at the point of care.”

The HealthShare AI Assistant is part of the broader InterSystems HealthShare suite, which enables data interoperability and connected care across more than 80 countries. The new AI capability is now available to HealthShare users in supported regions.
