MARQUETTE, Mich. — Able Medical Devices said it will showcase its latest sternal closure solutions at the Society of Thoracic Surgeons 2026 Annual Meeting in New Orleans, highlighting what the company describes as the industry’s first commercially available PEEK-based rigid fixation system for sternal closure.

The company’s Valkyrie Thoracic Fixation System uses PEEK (polyether ether ketone) as an alternative to traditional metal implants, offering a combination of strength, light weight, and biocompatibility. Able Medical said the material’s radiolucency and flexibility are designed to provide improved stability, patient comfort, and enhanced visualization during the healing process.

Able Medical said its PEEK-based technology reflects the company’s focus on improving patient outcomes while supporting surgical efficiency in cardiothoracic procedures. By eliminating metal components, the system is intended to address challenges associated with imaging interference and implant rigidity.

“We’re excited to be among the first to bring a PEEK sternal closure system to market,” said Peter Didyk, SVP & managing director at Able Medical. “Our team’s collaboration with surgeons and engineers have driven the development of a solution that enhances patient care while simplifying the surgical experience for the cardiothoracic O.R. teams.”

Able Medical will exhibit its PEEK sternal closure products at STS 2026, which runs from January 29 through February 1, 2026, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The company said attendees can visit its booth to learn more about its sternal closure platform, future product developments, and custom design capabilities.
