SOMERVILLE, Mass. — Greentown Labs said it has appointed longtime leader Julia Travaglini as Head of its Boston incubator, placing her in charge of advancing the organization’s impact as a center for climate and energy innovation.
Travaglini, who has spent the past decade at Greentown Labs, will oversee Greentown Boston’s operations and work to strengthen ecosystem connections, expand support for startups, and elevate the incubator’s role within the global climatetech community. Greentown Labs also operates a second location in Houston.
Most recently, Travaglini served as Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications, where she led brand strategy, ecosystem-building events, and government affairs. She previously served as Greentown’s Chief of Staff for two years.
“Julia has played an immense role in making Greentown the place and community it is today,” said Georgina Campbell Flatter, CEO of Greentown Labs. “As a tireless champion of entrepreneurs and a key builder of Massachusetts’s climatetech ecosystem, Julia is the perfect person to be our inaugural Head of Boston.”
Jason Hanna, a co-founder of Greentown Labs, board member, and general manager of AI Applications at Re:Build Manufacturing, said Travaglini has been central to the organization’s growth. “I’ve known Julia since 2016, and she’s been essential to everything we’ve built here. What makes her special isn’t just her expertise, it’s the way she shows up for our entrepreneurs, day in and day out. This role was made for her, and I can’t think of anyone better to lead Greentown Boston into its next chapter.”
In her new role, Travaglini will support more than 140 startups based at Greentown Boston by expanding access to laboratory infrastructure, services, and founder development pathways. She will also continue working to rally partners and stakeholders around entrepreneurs as the organization marks more than 15 years of activity in Massachusetts.
“Greentown exists to support climatetech founders and their teams in their efforts to bring new solutions to market, faster,” said Travaglini. “We take great pride in this work, and I’m energized by what lies ahead—supporting more startups, expanding our offerings, and continuing to grow the climatetech ecosystem here in Massachusetts. I’m grateful for the opportunity to step into this role and build on Greentown’s first 15 years of impact.”
Before joining Greentown Labs full time, Travaglini worked as a Senior Account Executive at HB Agency, which represented Greentown as a client from 2013 to 2015. She holds a bachelor’s degree in public relations and marketing from Quinnipiac University.
Greentown Labs also announced additional leadership promotions. Aisling Carlson, formerly Senior Vice President of Partnerships and Investor Programs, has been named Chief Growth Officer. Greg Ralich, formerly Vice President of Labs and Safety, has been appointed Head of Startup Success at Greentown Boston.
