LAS VEGAS, Nev. — InterSystems has named Tim Ferris, M.D., a longtime healthcare executive and former U.K. health system leader, as Vice President of its Healthcare Practice, the company announced as industry leaders gathered for the 2026 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition.
In the role, Ferris will guide the clinical and strategic direction of InterSystems’ healthcare technologies worldwide. The company said he will work with health systems and government organizations to develop technology solutions aligned with real-world operational needs, while also advancing research on health data infrastructure and contributing to broader discussions around the role of artificial intelligence in care delivery.
Ferris brings more than three decades of experience spanning clinical medicine, hospital system leadership, government health policy and healthcare technology development.
“Very few leaders in the world have viewed healthcare from as many critical vantage points as Dr. Ferris,” said Don Woodlock, President of InterSystems. “Tim has treated patients as a frontline physician, overseen thousands of physicians at one of the most respected hospital systems in the world, directed national health policy in the U.K. and incubated cutting-edge AI startups. These experiences make him the perfect leader to help architect technology solutions that truly work for every stakeholder in the healthcare ecosystem.”
Most recently, Ferris served as president of healthcare at Red Cell Partners, a technology incubator and investment firm focused on national security and healthcare innovation.
Earlier, he served as national director of transformation for England’s National Health Service, where he oversaw a $2.5 billion budget and led a sweeping modernization of frontline healthcare technology. During that period, the NHS App expanded to reach more than 40 million users, national health data services were moved to cloud-based infrastructure and new data partnerships were formed with major global technology and biotechnology companies.
Before his work in the United Kingdom, Ferris held senior leadership roles at Mass General Brigham, serving as CEO and chair of the Massachusetts General Physicians Organization and as senior vice president for population health. In those roles, he supervised 3,000 physicians and led an accountable care organization that delivered top national quality outcomes while generating more than $1 billion in cumulative cost savings.
A Harvard-trained physician, Ferris was appointed professor of medicine at Harvard University in 2018. He has authored more than 120 academic publications focused on quality measurement, health information technology and population health, and also serves as an advisor to Stanford University.
