CERRITOS, Calif.– CareMore Health is encouraging patients and members of the public to go to select CareMore Care Centers this month for a free medication review as part of the nationwide observance of National Check Your Meds Day occurring Friday, Oct. 21.
Patients and community members are encouraged to bring their prescriptions, over-the-counter medications and supplements to their local CareMore pharmacists for a medication review. During the medication review, pharmacists will help people review their medications, identify any potential medication interactions that they might not be aware of, and offer suggestions for discarding expired medications. They will also answer any questions people may have about their medications.
According to CareMore pharmacists, the people who may benefit the most from a medication review include those:
- Taking several medications (five or more) regularly
- Routinely taking over-the-counter medications, vitamins or supplements
- Obtaining prescriptions from more than one pharmacy or provider
- Taking more than one medication to treat a health problem
- With multiple chronic health conditions such as diabetes or heart failure
- Recently hospitalized or transitioned to another care setting (such as a skilled nursing facility)
“National Check Your Meds Day is a great reminder to give your medications a check-up,” said Albert Mei, manager, clinical pharmacy operations for CareMore Health. “A medication review can be very beneficial and help people get a better understanding of the medications they are taking, the risks, the potential side effects, and even identify potential for cost-savings.”
