HYANNIS, Mass.– Coastal Medical Transportation Systems (CMTS), a privately owned and operated medical transportation company dedicated to providing the highest quality of care with compassion, dignity and respect for customers and their patients, today announced the appointment of Michael Pieretti as chief quality officer and executive vice president, clinical care.
Pieretti, a paramedic, is a highly experienced emergency medical services professional bringing more than 18 years of diversified clinical, operational, and technological experience to the executive leadership team. He previously served as the chief operating officer of Coastal Medical Transportation Services since 2015. Michael’s focus on clinical quality, education, and operational scalability and resiliency has contributed to the consistent growth of CMTS since the company was founded nearly a decade ago.
“The Coastal family is honored to appoint Michael Pieretti as CMTS’ Chief Quality Officer,” said Alex Theoharidis, founder and chief executive officer, Coastal Medical Transportation Systems. “Michael has brought value clinically and operationally to CMTS. His dedication to ensuring that CMTS offers the best quality of care sits right at the heart of what our organization is all about. His expertise and hard work will further CMTS’ forward momentum by ensuring the company offers the best resources for our customers and employees.”
Pieretti’s appointment closely follows CMTS’ recent announcement of naming Brendan McNiff as chief operating officer and the organization’s acquisition of Transformative Healthcare to expand their ambulance network and the CMTS service area to collectively cover the Cape and the Islands, South Shore, Boston Metro, and Central Massachusetts regions. The acquisition also increases the overall size of the team, bringing the total number of employees in the CMTS team to 1,000 with a fleet of 213 ambulances.
“I am excited to take on the role of Chief Quality Officer for Coastal Medical Transportation Systems, especially as the organization as a whole continues to grow,” Michael Pieretti, chief quality officer, Coastal Medical Transportation Services. “I’m eager to work with the new team members, hospitals, and healthcare facilities in the new post-acquisition service area. Providing industry leading quality in clinical care to our community and region has been top of mind since day one, and I’m ready to ensure it continues to be what makes us stand out from the crowd in the ambulance service and medical transportation industry.”
Beyond CMTS, Pieretti worked side by side with Theoharidis previously as co-founders of Acuity Link, a comprehensive non-emergency medical transportation (NEMT) communications and logistics platform provider, which was acquired by Central Logic in January 2021. Prior to joining CMTS, Michael worked for Boston MedFlight’s ground critical care transport team and healthcare simulation team, and for Pro EMS as a 911 paramedic. Michael also serves on the academic advisory council for the Pro EMS Center for MEDICS paramedic education program.
