NEW YORK– In a new study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and presented at the American College of Physicians (ACP) Internal Medicine Meeting 2025, researchers found that K Health’s AI “Physician Mode” made clinical recommendations that matched or outperformed those of human doctors in treating common acute medical issues.

The study, led by researchers from Cedars-Sinai, Tel Aviv University, and K Health, evaluated the performance of the AI system in a virtual urgent care setting. Reviewing 461 cases from Cedars-Sinai Connect—a telehealth program launched in 2023—physicians compared AI-generated recommendations with those made by real doctors for adult patients with symptoms including respiratory, urinary, and dental complaints.

The results were notable: in roughly two-thirds of cases, the AI’s recommendations closely mirrored those of the treating physicians. In the remaining third, AI recommendations were deemed superior almost twice as often as the human physicians’ decisions.

“This wasn’t a textbook test—it was a real-world challenge,” said Ran Shaul, Co-founder and Chief Product Officer at K Health. “When trained on high-quality, real patient data and continuously updated through reinforcement learning, AI can reach—and sometimes surpass—human-level clinical decision-making.”

The AI tool also showed promise in patient safety. Potentially harmful recommendations occurred less frequently with AI (2.8%) compared to physicians (4.6%). Reviewers noted that the AI tended to follow medical guidelines more strictly and demonstrated an ability to flag subtle clinical details that doctors sometimes missed.

In about 20% of cases, the AI responded cautiously by choosing not to offer a recommendation, indicating it lacked sufficient confidence—mirroring the humility and discretion of experienced physicians.

“This study highlights how AI and physicians can work hand-in-hand,” said Dr. Caroline Goldzweig, chief medical officer of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Network and co-senior author of the study. “AI can help clinicians focus on the human aspects of care while ensuring that medical decisions align with best practices.”

K Health’s AI Physician Mode is already in use at several major U.S. health systems, including Cedars-Sinai, Hackensack Meridian Health, and Hartford HealthCare. The tool reviews a patient’s medical history and synthesizes data before appointments to support faster, more accurate decision-making by healthcare providers.

“This validation confirms what we’ve believed all along,” said Allon Bloch, Co-founder and CEO of K Health. “By combining the depth of AI with clinical expertise, we’re creating a smarter, more scalable healthcare system that can deliver better outcomes at greater speed and lower cost.”

As demand on the U.S. healthcare system continues to grow, experts say integrating AI like K Health’s could help providers manage increasingly complex care needs while maintaining high standards of safety and quality.
