BOSTON – Health technology firm Proximie has announced a new U.S.-focused partnership with HistoSonics to accelerate the adoption of the Edison® Histotripsy System, a non-invasive treatment platform for liver tumors. The collaboration aims to boost hospital installations, streamline clinical workflows, and improve patient outcomes.
The Edison System uses histotripsy—a novel form of focused ultrasound—to destroy tumors without incisions or thermal damage. Through integration with Proximie’s cloud-based operating room (OR) intelligence platform, physicians can now access real-time virtual support, structured data capture, AI-powered insights, and a library of procedural videos to guide use of the technology.
“This partnership with HistoSonics is driving the rollout of cutting-edge histotripsy while making a tangible impact on outcomes for patients suffering from liver tumors,” said Dr. Nadine Hachach-Haram, founder and CEO of Proximie. “It’s a testament to the value of intelligent, connected ORs.”
Under the agreement, the two companies will deploy integrated systems to hospitals and ambulatory surgery centers across several key regions, including Chicago, Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Seattle, and Southern California. Proximie’s platform enables HistoSonics’ clinical teams to provide live procedural guidance, helping physicians adopt the Edison System with confidence.
According to the American Cancer Society, nearly 300,000 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with liver tumors each year, often from metastases originating in other organs. Primary liver cancers like hepatocellular carcinoma also have poor long-term survival rates, underscoring the need for advanced therapeutic options.
Mike Blue, president and CEO of HistoSonics, emphasized the significance of the collaboration: “Proximie’s ability to provide real-time virtual presence in histotripsy procedures allows our medical team to support physicians in unprecedented ways. This partnership reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible technology to our customers.”
Dr. Kevin Burns, chief of interventional radiology at Providence Mission Hospital, highlighted the clinical impact: “The Edison System drastically improves outcomes for our patients by providing non-thermal, non-invasive therapy that reduces recovery times. With Proximie, we can share live guidance during procedures, which is invaluable for physicians new to the technology.”
The partnership adds to Proximie’s growing list of global collaborations, including recent deals with Olympus Corporation and surgical robotics company Distalmotion. Proximie is currently active in healthcare systems across five continents, continuing its mission to expand access to high-quality surgical care worldwide.
