WESTCHESTER, Ill. — MedHQ, a leading provider of administrative and advisory services for healthcare organizations across the U.S., has appointed veteran healthcare executive Steve Mason as Chief Operating Officer (COO), the company announced Tuesday.
Mason brings over 30 years of healthcare leadership experience to the role, including more than two decades focused on hospital operations, practice management, payer reimbursement, and professional services contracting. He currently serves as President of Avanza Strategies, MedHQ’s advisory division, a role he will continue alongside his new responsibilities.
“I have known Steve for many years and have always been impressed by his leadership, his ability to inspire the teams he oversees, and his talent for driving organizations to success with remarkable results,” said Erik Miller, CEO of MedHQ. “Expanding his role within MedHQ is a natural next step that will further enhance our ability to deliver exceptional services to our clients.”
As COO, Mason will lead MedHQ’s day-to-day operations, with oversight of client services, consulting, and practice management, while also managing profit and loss responsibilities across business units. He will play a central role in developing and executing strategic initiatives designed to accelerate growth and operational performance.
Prior to joining Avanza, Mason held senior roles with several healthcare organizations, including PhyMed Healthcare Group, Managed Care Advisory Group, Anesthesiology Consultants of Toledo, King Systems Corp., Toledo Hospital, and the ProMedica Health System. He also managed practice operations for more than 150 healthcare providers across several Midwest states.
“I am thrilled to step into the COO role during this exciting period of rapid growth for MedHQ,” said Mason. “Working with the MedHQ and Avanza teams has been an incredible experience, and their dedication to service excellence is truly inspiring. I look forward to building on this momentum and helping lead MedHQ into its next phase of success.”
Mason holds an MBA with a concentration in healthcare from the University of Dallas.
