ARLINGTON, Va. — Healthcare technology company DrFirst has named Laizer Kornwasser as its new chief executive officer, effective July 21, 2025. The leadership transition marks a planned succession as the company looks to accelerate growth and innovation in the medication management space.

Kornwasser succeeds G. Cameron Deemer, who served as CEO since 2023 and was previously president for 15 years. Deemer will remain actively involved as vice chairman of the board of directors, continuing to support the company’s long-term strategy.

Kornwasser brings more than 20 years of experience across pharmacy, telemedicine, chronic care, and pharmacy benefit management. He most recently served as president of enterprise growth and emerging markets at Teladoc Health and has held senior roles at CareCentrix and Medco Health. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and has taught at Yeshiva University’s Sy Syms School of Business.

“What drew me to this company is its consistent ability to identify gaps in medication management and create effective solutions to close those gaps,” said Kornwasser. “DrFirst has built something extraordinary—patented AI technologies, the nation’s largest medication management network, and deep integration with virtually every major EHR system. I’m excited to lead this exceptional team as we accelerate our strategy and continue to deliver comprehensive, interoperable solutions.”

Founded in 2000 by James Chen, who now serves as executive chairman of the board, DrFirst has long been a pioneer in healthcare technology. Under Chen and Deemer’s leadership, the company introduced several industry-first solutions, including:

  • Electronic prescribing for controlled substances (EPCS)

  • Real-time prescription benefit checks

  • Patented AI tools to enhance interoperability

  • Prescription orchestration technologies

“As we prepared for DrFirst’s next growth phase, we were seeking a leader who could embrace our vision and scale our market-leading platform,” said Deemer. “Laizer’s proven ability to drive aggressive growth while building cultures that attract and retain top talent makes him ideal to lead DrFirst going forward.”

Chen added, “Laizer’s extraordinary track record of business transformation and operational excellence across multiple healthcare sectors aligns perfectly with our vision for the company’s future. His leadership will be instrumental as we pursue rapid growth.”

DrFirst’s medication management solutions currently reach more than 100 million patients annually through integrations with hospitals, physician practices, and pharmacies nationwide.
