WALTHAM, Mass. — Thermo Fisher Scientific has introduced two new electron microscopes—the Scios 3 FIB-SEM and the Talos 12 TEM—aimed at making advanced scientific research tools more accessible to a wider range of laboratories. The launches were announced ahead of the Microscopy & Microanalysis (M&M) 2025 conference, taking place July 27–31 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The Thermo Scientific Scios 3 is a focused ion beam scanning electron microscope designed to streamline site-specific quality control with improved automation and high-throughput performance. Enhanced FIB column capabilities support more efficient lamella preparation, while ease-of-use improvements aim to assist users across experience levels.
“Researchers across the globe seek new and better materials for various applications – from clean energy and aerospace to productivity of digital devices,” said David Wall, vice president and general manager of materials science at Thermo Fisher. “Scios 3 addresses the challenges of new material development with world-class advancements designed for both academia and industry.”
Meanwhile, the Talos 12 transmission electron microscope builds on the company’s popular Talos platform, offering a compact and user-friendly 120kV system optimized for biological research, pathology, and drug development. It features a reduced footprint, next-generation enclosure, and AI-assisted workflows that support remote collaboration.
“We’re pleased to introduce Talos 12 at M&M this year to bring transmission electron microscopy to more researchers,” said Trisha Rice, vice president and general manager of life sciences at Thermo Fisher. “From routine imaging to cryo-EM, Talos 12 enables a wide array of labs to adopt powerful sample analysis tools.”
Live demonstrations of both instruments will be available at Thermo Fisher’s booth (#1734) during the M&M 2025 conference.
