CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Philips, the global health technology company that serves 90 percent of U.S. hospitals, announced plans to invest more than $150 million in U.S. manufacturing and research and development, including a major expansion of its Reedsville, Pa., facility that produces AI-enabled ultrasound systems.

The investment builds on Philips’ annual $900 million R&D spending in the U.S. and its existing network of nearly 17,000 employees across 40 facilities nationwide. The company’s products are used by clinicians and patients in hospitals across every state.

The Reedsville expansion will add 24,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 40,000 square feet of warehouse capacity, creating 120 skilled manufacturing jobs. The site will expand from producing ultrasound transducers to also customizing software and configurations for cardiovascular, general, and maternal care procedures. Philips’ cardiovascular ultrasound platform, for example, provides advanced tools to help physicians diagnose structural heart and coronary artery disease more quickly and accurately.

Philips’ investment also includes the recently announced expansion of its Image Guided Therapy facility in Plymouth, Minn., where a new medtech training center will be built, creating more than 150 new jobs. Additional manufacturing and R&D projects are planned over the coming years to support U.S. growth.

“The planned expansion of our manufacturing facilities demonstrates our deep commitment to the U.S.,” said Jeff DiLullo, chief region leader for Philips North America. “Increasing our manufacturing and R&D capabilities will create jobs and accelerate our ability to deliver better care for more people with innovative AI-enabled solutions.”
