CANTON, Mass. — Western Missouri Medical Center has selected the MEDITECH Expanse electronic health record platform to unify care delivery across its hospital and 19 affiliated ambulatory clinics, marking a return to MEDITECH after a brief transition to another EHR vendor.
The Warrensburg, Missouri-based acute care hospital said the move reflects its focus on adopting modern, sustainable technology to streamline workflows, simplify reporting, and improve clinical and financial outcomes under a single enterprise-wide system. The deployment will launch under the banner “Mission Expanse – Charting the Future Together,” underscoring a team-driven approach to digital transformation.
“Not only is the financial impact to WMMC tremendous, but this transition also allows us to add valuable modules — such as full Population Health and Oncology — that were previously cost-prohibitive,” said Western Missouri Medical Center President and CEO Darinda Dick. “I believe this platform is well-suited for hospitals like ours that are committed to remaining independent while delivering exceptional care.”
Hospital leaders said MEDITECH Expanse was selected for its interoperability capabilities, which provide clinicians with a comprehensive view of patient data without requiring the organization to join another health system’s EHR. This approach allows Western Missouri Medical Center to maintain operational independence while enabling flexibility to make system changes in real time. The platform will be delivered through MEDITECH as a Service, supporting the hospital’s cloud-first strategy with a scalable model aligned to its size and needs.
“Expanse offers a practical, customizable, and efficient solution that supports our providers and staff across all care settings,” said Drew Glover, MD, Informatics Committee Chair at Western Missouri Medical Center. “We’re confident this transition will enhance both the patient and provider experience, streamline workflows, and position WMMC for long-term success.”
As part of the implementation, the hospital plans to deploy Expanse Patient Connect, a real-time, automated communication tool designed to improve patient engagement through secure, two-way text messaging throughout the care journey.
Western Missouri Medical Center also cited the strength of MEDITECH’s revenue cycle functionality as a key factor in its decision, pointing to the platform’s financial tools and analytics capabilities. By consolidating inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory settings onto a single EHR, the organization expects to reduce time spent on reporting and gain more actionable insights across clinical and administrative operations. Hospital leaders also highlighted the system’s intuitive navigation and ease of use as benefits for staff adoption.
“We are delighted to be working with Western Missouri Medical Center again and building a sustainable long-term partnership,” said MEDITECH Executive Vice President and COO Helen Waters. “Adopting MEDITECH Expanse as its EHR is an investment in a unified, modern platform that will empower its teams to deliver exceptional care with greater efficiency and flexibility. This strategic move will support WMMC’s ongoing mission of serving its community with innovative solutions that keep patients at the center of care.”
