SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. — BioMed Realty said its Gateway of Pacific campus in South San Francisco has been named a local winner of the BOMA TOBY (The Outstanding Building of the Year) Award in the Life Science category, recognizing excellence in commercial building operations.

The award is presented by the Building Owners and Managers Association and is considered one of the commercial real estate industry’s most comprehensive honors, evaluating performance across operations, sustainability, tenant experience, energy management, and overall asset quality.

Gateway of Pacific was recognized for its operational performance and its ability to meet the specialized needs of life science and technology tenants, including reliable infrastructure, high-quality facilities management, and a strong tenant experience. As research organizations increasingly adopt AI-enabled tools and data-intensive workflows, demand has grown for lab and office environments with higher power capacity, infrastructure redundancy, and operational reliability. The campus was designed and is operated with those requirements in mind, the company said.

BioMed Realty said the award reflects its broader portfolio-wide focus on operational excellence, sustainability initiatives, and tenant-focused services aimed at supporting innovation across the life science and technology sectors.

“This recognition speaks directly to the expertise and commitment of our property and facilities teams, who work every day to deliver reliable, high-performing environments for our tenants,” said Bob Nowak, Senior Vice President of Operations for West Coast Markets at BioMed Realty. “Life science and technology companies depend on precision, uptime, and responsive support. The Gateway of Pacific team takes pride in meeting that responsibility, and this award recognizes the standard they set.”

He added that as AI and advanced technologies become more integrated into research and business operations, companies are placing increased value on facilities that are resilient, adaptable, and capable of supporting evolving technical demands.

The Gateway of Pacific campus also emphasizes health and wellness in its design, featuring a centralized amenity center that offers culinary, fitness, and community programming. The site includes The Forum, a 20,000-square-foot conference center designed to support meetings and events for tenant organizations.

As a local BOMA TOBY winner, Gateway of Pacific will advance to the Pacific Southwest Regional competition, which includes properties across California, Arizona, Nevada, and Hawaii. Regional winners will then move on to the international level, with final awards to be announced at the 2026 BOMA International Conference & Expo in Long Beach on June 30, 2026.
